It has been 6 years since I have graduated high school. Since then classmates have traveled to separate colleges, moved out of town, or just disappeared for a while. Before the social internet revolution it was hard to see where classmates had journeyed to in life. But now it is overly simple to stay connected and follow people to an almost stalking level. You now can see where they live, work, their relational status, and events they are attending. When I first joined facebook I only added people I was truly friends with, but I have noticed lately more and more friend requests from past classmates. Maybe it is due to the recent boom in engagements, or the new "people you may know" feature.
I do have mixed feelings though. I have always been curious of other people, but I don't know if this is the way I wanted to find out. It is nice though, being a person who returned to Warsaw after college, to find out who else has adventured back to Warsaw to start their life and careers. Maybe a way to reconnect with old friends, or to forgive past grudges and form new friendships.

I don't do facebook. Am I missing out on a lot?
Are you missing out by not being on facebook? Hmm...yes and no. Depends on what you want. It seems to me that reconnecting on facebook is often on a rather superficial level... you peruse an old acquaintance's profile, find out where they're living, their relationship status, etc. Perhaps exchange a quick "my life's good, how's yours?" wall post... and that's the end of that. So if you want that, then perhaps you're missing out. I pretty much said good riddance to Warsaw High folks, except for a select few (you know who you are :) )... so I haven't really reconnected with many others. If they want to friend me, fine, I'm not really going out of my way to friend them. But it is true that there are a few people who I've "reconnected" with in a more meaningful way.
And Miranda I hear you about not being sure if facebook is how you want to find out about things in people's lives... I feel like it can go either way, often depending on the person... sometimes I've been happy to find out stuff via facebook, sometimes rather annoyed.
And now I'll stop my facebook rant because it's already far too long :)
